Chicago Free Friday 3: 4/19 Home Depot Free CFL lighbulbs

Home Depot will be giving away 1 million Ecosmart 14w CFL bulbs on April 19, 2009 in honor of Earth Day. There are not many restrictions on this giveaway and no purchase is required. For more details, read the information here.

If you haven’t used them before, a CFL bulb is compact fluorescent lamp, a type of bulb that uses less power and has a longer life than a regular light bulb. I have replaced my outside lights with these kind of bulbs about a year ago and they haven’t gone out yet! I’m all for greener solutions that have better results than their non-green counterparts.

Don’t just throw away a CFL bulb, though. Please read the EPA’s article here on proper disposal of a CFL bulb.

Home Depot is making it easy – and free – by giving away one million EcoSmart 14w CFL bulbs on April 19th.

You might want to get there early, as stores’ quantities are limited. One per customer, please.
