What’s in the Bible? is a new DVD series from VeggieTales creator Phil Vischer designed to walk kids and families through the entire Bible. The 13 DVD-series will release beginning March 1, 2010. Most will remember that in 1990, 24-year-old computer-animator Phil Vischer who was attending Park Community Church, sat down with Mike Nawrocki to create a group of characters that could teach Christian values to kids in a delightfully different way. VeggieTales Trailer and Questions: The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything
“The children’s franchise delivers an entertaining spoof as the vegetables find the heroes in themselves.” — LA TIMES
“Most Entertaining” – Hollywood Reporter
“Pirates imparts the Bible-inspired storytelling parents and kids have come to expect from VeggieTales in a less obvious but as-fun-as-always package.” – Christianity Today
DISCUSSION STARTERS:
Here are some questions from Christianity Today’s review to begin dialogue with your children once you have seen the movie:
1. Why do you think George, Elliot and Sedgewick feel that “guys like us will never be more than cabin boys”? Are some people just not cut out to be heroes? Why or why not? What do you think it means to be a hero?
2. If Elliot, Sedgewick and George are supposed to be normal people like us in the story, who does the King represent? Why do you think that?
3. Could the pirates have been victorious without the King? Why or why not? List the ways the King helps them throughout the movie. What do you think this movie says about your ability to do good things without God?
4. Each of the three main characters has a weakness that holds him back. What is a weakness that you feel holds you back? Why would God allow humans to have weaknesses like this to struggle with? Read 2 Corinthians 12:9-10. What does this mean? How do you see this illustrated in the movie?

Father’s Day – June 18
Today I got invited to the Cubs-Tigers game by a friend who own his own company and rented out the Batter’s Eye, the perfect place to have a party in dead center field in Wrigley Field. While it was great to be with friends, it was painful to see Mark Prior get shelled in the first inning (ERA after first inning: 54.0!) You know, now that I am a father, I realize the significance of this day every year. I have an awesome father, Gilbert Lavey, who gave me the appropriate amount of praise, discipline and drive to succeed in life. Thank you Dad! I also realize as I talk to folks that many did not have a great father. How do you begin to get your arms around a loving God as your father when your earthly father was a bad or nonexistent example? As I watched this online video about our heavenly father, I am reminded about who our eternal father is and boy, am I thankful this day! I read an awesome poem that epitomizes my growth in my relationship with my own dad. For many years, I thought I knew best but in the end, I understood the wisdom that my dad has and how I should let it flow over me rather than trying to constantly brush it off. Check out this poem of truth
