SUNDAY MISCELLANEOUS:

Today in the Daily Mail is a story out of London that in their recent nationwide survey, only one in a hundred Christmas cards has any sort of religious symbols or message. WOW! Have we progressed to that point already? The God of the universe comes down into our world, and people celebrate that momentus, world-changing event (upon which our calendar is based) with a card depicting some drunken bears?  A good friend of ours recently left Park to pastor a church just southwest of London (Ashford) and he tells us that God is nowhere in the lives of most folks under 40 in London so this comes as no surprise to him. What do you think?
Here is a snippet:

Only one in 100 Christmas cards sold in Britain contains any religious imagery or message, a Daily Mail survey has revealed. Traditional pictures such as angels blowing trumpets over a stable, Jesus in his manager, the shepherds and three wise men following the star to Bethlehem are dying out. Instead, scenes of the Nativity has been replaced on cards by designs or jokes with little or no relevance to the Bible story and the true meaning of Christmas…….Religious groups and MPs last night warned that the multi-million pound Christmas card industry was losing sight of the real reason for celebrating the festive period. They also aired concerns that religious images were being scrubbed from cards because of political correctness and the fear of offending other faiths.

In another recent story out of London, Christian and Muslim Britons joined forces to tell city officials to stop taking the Christianity out of Christmas, warning them that this simply fuels a backlash against Muslims. They attacked local authorities who used titles such as “Winterval” for their Christmas celebrations and avoided using Christian symbols in case they offended minority groups, especially Muslims and Hindus.

Another story decrying the sanitization of Christmas and the increase of terms like Winterval from the London Times.
What do you think of this relentless sanitizing of Christmas?
